Reserach; Different Film Openings

There are three main different types of openings in the world of media. These are:
- Discrete Openings
- Narrative Openings
- Credits Over A Blank Screen
And an additional more sophisticated style which is called 'Stylised Editing'.

A 'Discrete Opening' is when the title credits are displayed separately from the actual film opening. The way that it is shown is unrelated to whatever happens in the movie itself; they are stylised and dramatically edited. A perfect example of this is the opening for the movie 'Se7en'...

The next structure of a opening is a 'Narrative Opening'. This type of opening is in which the drama that occurs whilst the credits are being shown subliminally tell the story/plot of the main film. A perfect example of this is the opening of 'The Shining'...

In addition, the opening structure 'Credits Over A Blank Screen' is simply where the credits appear over a blank screen at the start. This type of editing may help to create a certain atmosphere/vibe for the movie as a whole. An example of this is 'Donnie Darko'...

Lastly, 'Stylised Editing' is basically an opening that is amazingly stylised to make it more appealable to the naked eye; this consuming alot of time and dedication to do so. The movie 'Mezrine' does so...
