In our pre production we had to do a storyboard to establish what type of shots we wanted to do to set the scene. We also had to do a storyboard for our film opening which helped us a lot, giving us a sense of direction. 

During the production of our preliminary we followed the storyboard so it was quite successful. It was quick and easy for us to edit as it was short and simple. We did not add any soundtrack or background music to it; we did not use sound track pro to its full potential. In addition, using final cut pro was standard and straight forward as well. A few cuts and no special effects. The lighting seemed fine in our preliminary so we did not edit. Our camera work was very basic, we mainly used shot reverse shot to establish a connection.

In our film opening we did not follow the storyboard. We decided that it was too complex and we needed to make it more simple for our target audience to get a better understanding as its two minutes. In our opening we successfully used soundtrack pro and final cut pro to the maximize the standard and quality of our film. We used a variety of shot types such as match cut, shot reverse shot to create atmosphere. We have explored soundtrack pro to find a specific sound to match our psychological / action sub-genre. using final cut pro, it enabled us to add titles such as the distributors and casts names. This took part in making our opening successful as we covered the conventions of film opening.

After we finished filming we looked at the preliminary and looked at the different ways in which we could have planed and filmed, we tried to learn from this and make sure our next project was better.

Viewing both the preliminary and the opening, it is quite clear that we have improved on our skills and have progressed a lot during the process. We have maximized in using many technologies such as soundtrack pro, final cut pro, JVC camera and vimeo. I have learnt how to use all these technologies including how to import and export video's.

Representation Of Social Groups

Representation refers to the construction in any medium of aspects of reality such as people, places, objects, events, cultural identities and other concepts.


Representation looks at four particular influences : Class, Age, Gender and Ethnicity.

The Inbetweeners Movie is aimed at the audience age of 15+. It has sexual references in it yet is comedic for the reasons of it being aimed at this particular age group. I believe that this movie represents young boys, going on holiday just to have fun. It seems as if they have represented teenage boys in a negative light because of the way they act sexually and just drink beverages of alcohol. However the movie just conveys teenage social groups like this due to the genre.


In our opening the representation of social groups we looked at was Gender and Age. 

The villian in our opening is a teenage girl who is wearing uniform with a gas mask. We've simply decided for her to wear uniform as we believe it connotes an innocent young girl however she is the complete opposite. We wanted a WW2 theme with the gas mask yet the concept did not match as we didn't follow our storyboard. We simply used the gasmask for effect to make it seem interesting and to give it a spooky atmosphere. Furthermore it is abnormal to see someone in society with a gas mask. In addition we normally would not see a female character to be the villian. Again this makes our opening unique and catching to our audience. 

Myself, the victim is a normal girl. We've decided for me to wear casual clothing (denim top, black trousers, white trainers and a bag) to show that its a casual day and nothing unusual is suspected. Its quite common for a female to be a victim as most of the time we are seen quite vunerable.

Forms & Conventions

The purpose of a film opening is to keep the attention of the audience. A film opening should establish some or most characters and the genre of the film.
The opening can include up to many things such as :  Title Sequences

In our opening we have started of with a two second establishing shot of our location; Angel Road Station.  We looked at Arlington Road (1999) and this influenced us to shoot this.

We then presented "Warner Bros Presents" which is our film/production company. We've chosen this particular company as its well known and large universally. It will be noticed by our audience as we have aimed it at 15+.

The name of our director has come after the company followed by the producer, cast, music producer and finally our title. We've decided to put it in this order because of the status in the making. Our title is last for the audience to remember and embrace the title throughout the movie.

The font we have used is 'cracked' and in white throughout our opening. The crack signifies something creepy yet subtle. It doesn't have any particular effect such as fade as we wanted it to be simple and standard. However with our title at the end of the opening, each letter pops up one by one again to establish it.

Evaluation of Rough Cut

During the past few weeks of filming and week of editing we have finally rounded up with an idea of what our opening should be like.

It was my second time properly editing on final cut pro of  so it was challenging at some points. As a group we decided to open with an establishing shot of 'Angel Road Station' our only and main location.  It then cut into a second shot of the top of a fence with sticks/twigs surrounding it. This close up shot was panning across for a good 4seconds, again to present a cold atmosphere. Third shot was of a train passing by, it was to give the audience an idea of what could happen or hoping it would relate to our title 'Last Stop'.

We carried on using Final Cut Pro too do a shot reverse shot of the villian in a gas mask and the train passing by. We've done this to try create a scary/creepy atmosphere as it isn't quite normal to see someone in society with a gasmask. Also she wears school uniform to make it more intense. The uniform signifies a young innocent girl, however in this case we have decided to represent this opposite to show how demented she is.  In these shots, it again presents a character and the fact that she comes closer and closer makes it even creepier.

The next shot cuts into a shot of me (the victim). This shot just establishes another character. The normal clothes and myself acting as if its a normal day shows that im un-aware of any happenings what so ever. The scenes go on for me to not notice the villian until I turn my head. It then cuts into a shot of the villian sitting still. This shows awkwardness and status as she doesn't react or look at anything however the victim does.

We didn't use sound track pro as we didn't have enough time. Theres a few alterations that we need to do e.g use effects, add in titles, add in sound effect and music. By doing this we should have a successful opening as a group!

Reconstruction To Our Opening

After thinking deeply about our opening, it was brought to our attention that our current opening was too short. Therefor, we have decided to extend our opening by adding in extra clips at the beginning. We have agreed that in order to make it clearer to the audience of why the victim is being killed; we should add a few clips on the killer's childhood. Basically the killer was bullied/excluded by a group of girls so therefore a few years on, she decides to get revenge. We have decided to show the killer as a child where she is being excluded, then we will use a camera effect so that the action will be taken as a photograph. Then it will show that same clip as an actual polaroid in a book. The child (killer) will be flicking through the pages on her bed with evil in her eyes & scribbling out things etc. Then we will flash forward to the killer as a teenager still flicking through the pages so that its clear to the audience that they are the same people. Then it will show the killer (teenager) slam the book shut and then we will have a change in the day of time (from night to day) and then we will go to the original clip of the storyboard in the train station.

We are more sure now of what type of shots we will be using and what type of lighting works better, for example close-ups and two shots and reverse/shot revers. we also think that the shots we use will be efective because the lighting and other surrounding factors will make it look good.

Target Audience is the suggested audience that you aim your film towards. Different genre have different audiences as it may have aspects which does not apply towards another.

Adventure films are usually exciting stories, with new experiences or exotic locales.

Comedies are light-hearted plots consistently and deliberately designed to amuse and provoke laughter by exaggerating the situation, the language, action, relationships and characters.

Action films usually include high energy, big-budget physical stunts and chases, possibly with rescues, battles, fights, escapes, destructive crise.
